Day 3 – Kata Competition Kicks Off

Yesterday marked the first full day of competition at the WUKF World Championships — and what a fantastic start for the team!

The day began with Cadet 14–17 Kata, and the standard across the board was exceptionally high. Every medal won was the result of hard work, focus, and true determination.

Reda opened the day with a strong performance in a fiercely competitive 14–15 boys category, narrowly missing out on a medal. Joseph and Ian followed with composed and committed performances in their very first World Championships – a milestone to be proud of!

The girls were next to take the stage. All performed brilliantly, with Emily finishing 5th in the 16–17 girls category, and Salma battling through to secure our first medal of the day — a well-earned silver!

Ariz followed in a small but high-quality division and delivered a strong performance to take bronze.

Then came our girls’ captain Layjha, who showed great presence and control on the tatami, narrowly missing out on gold to bring home another silver medal.

George competed next in the 18–20 kata category and impressed with a confident performance, finishing 4th in his debut World Championships — just one spot away from a medal.

Kylie took to the tatami in the veterans’ category, progressing through three rounds to claim a silver medal.

A massive well done to everyone who competed — especially those making their international debut: George, Lilly, Clarissa, Susanne, Ian, Jack and Joseph. We’re proud of each and every one of you. Others in the squad also competed with focus and spirit, gaining valuable experience on this world stage even if the medals didn’t fall their way this time.

Today it’s all about Kumite! Cadet through to veteran individual categories, open weights, and cadet teams – good luck to all stepping on the tatami!
